Count Your Many Blessings

Today I attended the funeral services for a gal who was in my book club. It was a very nice service. She had died after a seven year battle with cancer. She was 38 years old and left behind a husband and three daughters ages nine, seven and three. It made me very sad. Her children are roughly the same ages as mine. My heart went out to her husband and sweet children. She was a very remarkable person and she will be greatly missed.

As I sat and listened to the thoughtful comments made during the service, I was touched by how often the speakers referenced her optimism and how blessed she felt her life was. She never questioned her faith or seemed to feel bitter about her situation. I had always known her to be remarkably positive and energetic about her life. It made me wonder how I would react if I were faced with similar circumstances. Her positive outlook and her faith are certainly worthy of emulation.

I also thought about all of the blessings that God has given me in my life. I am truly blessed! I have a wonderful family. I love my husband. He is such a good person. He is kind to me and our children. He is smart and hard working and devoted and good natured and he has a good sense of humor (which is helpful since he lives with and has to put up with me). I truly enjoy his company and spending my life with him. I get to be the mom to four amazing little people who are talented and sweet and good. How did I get so lucky? I love them so much! I have a supportive and loving extended family who would do just about anything for me and my family. And I have wonderful, caring friends who enrich my life in so many ways. I have SO many opportunities and luxuries and blessings! I hope that I never, ever forget it! No matter what.

One of my greatest blessings is that these
wonderful people call me "mom".
